We Irish all have at least one good true story to tell - whether it be funny, sad, poignant, surprising...
Share your true Irish stories with me and help raise money for a very worthy cause - Concern's Haiti Appeal
I was given a book called True Tales of American Life for Christmas. It's a collection of short true stories submitted to National Public Radio's National Story Project. The stories cover a huge diversity of subjects, submitted by people from all walks of life, many who had never felt compelled to put to paper a true story of their own before. Some of the stories are sad, some funny, some thought provoking, surprising but as a whole they give a compelling picture of the diversity of American life.
The same night I started reading this book, the full scale of the Haiti earthquake disaster became apparent. And that's what led to this idea...wouldn't it be great to help compile a group of short true stories of Irish lives which could then be put into a book and sold to help raise much needed funds for Concern's Haiti Appeal.
So what can you do?
Just take a little time to type your story and email it to me (trueirishstories@gmail.com) along with your name and where you're from. It must be true, it must be short (one to two A4 pages), it must relate to Ireland in some way (however tenuous - we've never been too fussy!) and it must be true.
I'll then take care of the rest (well with the help of some of my good friends as well). I promise that every story will be read and as many of them as possible will then be compiled into a book which will be published. All proceeds from the book will go to Concern's Haiti Appeal.
To see some stories from the book that inspired me, see this but remember, it's your stories I'm looking for, whatever they are.
So please, it doesn't need to be a masterpiece, just your own true little story. And tell all your friends too!
Deadline for receiving stories : Sunday, March 7th.
